CRAFT

CRyocooler based Analysis of Flux Trapping

CRAFT is the further development of TraMaFlu. It employs the same measurement principle and samples as TraMaFlu but has key advantages. The design is based on cryocoolers and, therefore, eliminates the need for liquid helium which reduces operating costs as well as experimental effort. This in turn allows higher sample throughput for even more systemic investigations. Additionally, the use of cryocoolers has the advantage that experiments are conducted in a more controlled environment of an insulation vacuum which makes fully automated measurements possible. Furthermore, it expands the available parameter space in terms of temperature gradient and external magnetic field. With the use of liquid helium in TraMaFlu cooldown conditions of cavities can be simulated more closely but since samples and sensors are identical for both systems, they can be used complementary to each other utilizing the advantages of both systems.

Capabilities:

  • Sample size: 10 x 6 cm2
  • Same data acquisition capabilities as TraMaFlu
  • Reversable temperature gradient
  • Full control of applied external 3D magnetic field up to 240 µT
  • Fully automated measurements
