School Lab

Welcome to school lab "Insight into Matter"

The school lab Insight into Matter is a project of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (HZB). Like the HZB, it is presented at two locations: Berlin-Wannsee and Berlin-Adlershof.

Our school lab offers project days around the themes ‘magnetism & superconductivity’, ‘solar energy research’, ‘interference’, ‘materials research’ as well as ‘light & colours’. All these topics are related to research topics currently done at HZB and are aimed at pupils in classes 5 to 13. The school lab is equipped with modern devices and materials allowing all pupils of the visiting class to experiment independently in small groups. In this way, the pupils gain practical experience in natural sciences, in particular physics. All pupils groups are attended and supervised by teachers, scientists and students.

For primary school pupils, no prior experience or knowledge is required. For certain topics, we provide information material for class 9 and higher to facilitate previous preparation in their specialized teaching classes.

For pupils it is possible to complete their internship (2 weeks) in one of our school labs. Click here to find a description of the school lab internship. If you are interested, please send your application to Gabriele Wetter.
