Compatibility of Work and Life
HZB supports its employees in balancing their professional and private lives. This support is reflected in comprehensive flexibility options with regard to working hours (flexitime) and place of work (mobile working), numerous part-time models, and a comprehensive range of events.

The Office for Work and Life (OWL) is an internal, confidential point of contact for all HZB employees. What part-time options do I have? How can I prepare for upcoming caregiving responsibilities? What do I need to consider during my pregnancy? You will receive answers to these and other questions about balancing work and family life. If you would like more comprehensive advice, our external service provider benefit@work is here to help. They provide free information, expert advice, and practical support on topics such as children, caregiving, and life stages. Since 2011, our family-friendly corporate culture has been officially confirmed and certified by the berufundfamilie audit.
Mobility

The environmentally friendly use of public transport is important to us, which is why we subsidize the Jobticket (Germany ticket) with €23 per month. In addition, S-Bahn Berlin grants a discount of €8 per month. Trainees receive a subsidy of €15 for the VBB-Abo Azubi upon request. Our locations are equipped with charging stations for electric cars and bicycle repair stations, and we also offer regular bicycle safety checks.
Employee Discounts
HZB employees can take advantage of exclusive discounts via the Corporate Benefits platform. The platform offers price advantages for numerous well-known brands and providers—from travel and technology to fashion, sports, and tickets. The offers can be conveniently accessed online and via app.
Health Promotion
The health of our employees is important to us! Our occupational health management program designs working conditions to promote health and supports employees in actively and consciously doing something for their health. Part of OHM is health promotion, e.g., through regular health days on topics such as back and eye health or workshops on mindfulness or ergonomics during mobile work.
In addition, HZB is part of the Adlershof Health Network, which, in cooperation with the Techniker Krankenkasse health insurance company, offers a “cross-location occupational health management” program for the science, business, and media location Berlin Adlershof, which is open to all employees. In addition, family members and friends of HZB can participate in various sports (e.g., badminton, Pilates, yoga, or volleyball) in the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin e.V. company sports club.
Food and Drink

While the Adlershof campus offers a wide range of cafés and restaurants within walking distance, the Wannsee campus has its own canteen, which offers a varied lunch menu as well as snacks, salads, and light meals—here, our trainees demonstrate their skills alongside our experienced chefs.
Sozialwerk Bund
All HZB employees can become members of Sozialwerk Bund, which offers a wide range of attractive social benefits in various areas: family vacations, support for mother/father-child health retreats, senior citizen groups, children's and youth camps in Germany, Spain, and Italy, language trips for young people, group and individual trips at exclusive special prices, etc. In addition, Sozialwerk Bund members benefit from special conditions at Fitness First Black and, through membership of Wellhub – a corporate wellness platform – gain access to over 5,000 sports, leisure, and wellness facilities, as well as online courses and numerous fitness and mindfulness apps.
