PUBLISHING RESULTS
Excellence and efficiency of research at large scale facilities will determine the future success and funding of these infrastructures. Please help us by publishing the results of your HZB experiments in the public domain in a reasonable time.
Please find more detailed information on publishing your results below:
EU Reporting Requirements
As recipient of financial support by the EU Commission via BESSY II you are obliged to meet the EU reporting requirements:
(1) Please submit the Experimental Report via GATE after your beamtime in a timely manner. This report is an obligatory part of the annual report to the EU Commission.
(2) In addition, the project leader is requested to fill in the H2020 Research Infrastructures: User group questionnaire. The Number and Acronym of the EC Grant Agreement to be indicated in field No. 1 is 730872 CALIPSOplus.
(3) All publications resulting from work done in the HZB should be registered in GATE and a final version of the manuscript or a copy of the published paper should be uploaded to the network. Open access publication of results from work funded by the EU Commission programs within the Horizon 2020 framework is highly encouraged. CALIPSOplus offers financial support in publishing open access - check here for more information.
(4) Please acknowledge BESSY II and the European Community in all publications (articles, posters, talks etc.) involving activities at BESSY II if a reimbursement has been granted.
Acknowledging financial support
If you and your group have received financial support you have the obligation to acknowledge this support in your publication.
For all users
In general we kindly ask you to use the following phrase in your acknowledgement:
"Measurements were carried out at the XX instrument (beamline/station/lab) at the BESSY II electron storage ring OR (lab) operated by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (reference publication as of webpage)."
and
"We would like to thank N.N. for assistance during the experiment." (if not co-author of the publication)
Financial support for user groups from EU member states
Should your group have received financial support in the framework of one of the EC programmes (NMI3 II, CALIPSO, BioStructX, CALIPSOplus), the EC requests that you acknowledge this support in your publication. Furthermore, work funded by EU Commission programmes within the Horizon 2020 framework must be openly available, i.e. open access (free of charge, online access for any user) to all peer-reviewed scientific publications relating to its results must ensured - see Guidelines on Implementation of Open Access to Scientific Publications and Research Data.
EC support Photons
In any publication resulting from user projects funded through CALIPSO or CALIPSOplus, the acknowledgment of this support is mandatory. The following paragraph must be included in the acknowledgments section:
CALIPSO (FP 7) Projects from January 2012 to June 2015
"The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under grant agreement n.°312284."
CALIPSOplus (H2020) Projects from May 2017 to October 2021
"The research leading to this result has been supported by the project CALIPSOplus under the Grant Agreement 730872 from the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation HORIZON 2020."
EC support MX
BioStruct-X (FP 7) Projects from September 2011 to December 2015
"The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) under BioStruct-X (grant agreement N°283570)."
CALIPSOplus (H2020) Projects from May 2017 to October 2021
"The research leading to this result has been supported by the project CALIPSOplus under the Grant Agreement 730872 from the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation HORIZON 2020."
EC support Neutrons
NMI3 II (FP7) Neutron projects from February 2012 to January 2016
"This project has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under the NMI3-II Grant number 283883."
HZB support for groups from German universities
Should your group have received financial support from HZB, we ask you to acknowledge this support in your publication.
"We thankfully acknowledge the financial support from HZB."
or
"XX thankfully acknowledges the financial support from HZB."
Financial support from the Russian German Laboratory (RGL) for Russian user groups
Should your group have received financial support from the Russian German Laboratory, then the RGL ask you to acknowledge this support in your publication.
"This research project has been supported by the Russian German Laboratory at BESSY II."
Acknowledging the co-authorship of HZB local contacts
Without the dedicated work of HZB scientists in designing, commissioning, building, maintaining, and developing the HZB instruments and experimental stations many experiments could not be carried out.
We would appreciate if you could kindly include your HZB local contact as co-author on your publications.
If your research team is largely self-sufficient and you do not intend to include your local contact as a co-author on publications, you should discuss this with your local contact during the experiment.
Acknowledging the use of HZB facilities
The use of HZB facilities and the allocation of beamtime must be mentioned properly in the publication. We appreciate it very much when you use the following paragraphs to acknowledge the use of any HZB user facilities in your publications:
In the experimental section of the paper:
“Measurements were carried out at the XX instrument (beamline/station/lab) at the BESSY II electron storage ring OR (lab) operated by the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie (reference publication as of webpage)."
and in the acknowlegements:
"We thank the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie for the allocation of synchrotron radiation beamtime."
Please check if the beamline/station/equipment that was used during the experiments has received funding from the BMBF program ErUM-Pro. If so, please use the following sentence:
„Beamline/station/chamber XX at HZB received funding from the BMBF program ErUM-Pro.“
HZB Publication server (HZB Repository)
Please refer to our HZB Publication server to search for publications created at the research facilities BESSY II and BER II or with the participation of authors of the HZB. After entering search criteria, you will find the reference to the electronic version on the publisher´s server, marked by its DOI number, in the displayed result, if available. Available Open Access versions are linked in the displayed search result. In the extended search criteria you will find filters for the used large research equipment BESSY II and BER II as well as for EU project funding.
