Previous User Meetings

The 15th BESSY@HZB User Meeting took place on 22 to 23 June as a summer meeting in Berlin-Adlershof.

Highlight of the meeting was the Public Lecture, a Public Panel Discussion on "Science Diplomacy, International Collaboration and the Contribution of Light Sources to Cooperative Solutions" with Prof. Dr. Rolf-Dieter Heuer (former General Director of CERN), Prof. Dr. Sekazi K. Mtingwa (Co-Founder and Chair, LAAAMP Executive Committee), Dr. Gihan Kamel (SESAME), Dr. Lucy Ombaka (Technical University of Kenya) and Dr. Yazmin Lucero Cobos Becerra (Strategy Dept. Energy and Information, HZB). The Moderation was done by Prof. Dr. Rutger Schlatmann (PVcomB, HZB).

The User Meeting was the first one with a new feature – it was accompanied by a country of honour. The first country of honour was Kenya.

The 14th BESSY@HZB User Meeting took place as a virtual meeting on December 8.

Highlight of the meeting was the Public Lecture on "Thoughts About the Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Summit" presented by Dr. Seth R. Marder (Director of the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Institute, a joint between the University of Colorado-Boulder (CU-Boulder) and the NREL, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, a national laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy).

The 13th BESSY@HZB User Meeting took place as a virtual meeting on December 9.

Highlight of the meeting was the Public Lecture on “Sustainable Fuels: BESSY enables conceptual approaches” presented by Prof. Dr. Robert Schlögl.

The twelfth BESSY@HZB User Meeting took place as a virtual meeting on December 10.

The highlight of the meeting was the Public Lecture on “Structure-based discovery of inhibitors of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease” presented by Prof. Dr. Rolf Hilgenfeld, a globally renowned biochemist and structural virologist. The lecture is still available on the HZB YouTube channel.

The Eleventh Joint BER II and BESSY II User Meeting took place December 4 to 6, 2019.

The Neutron and Young Scientists Day was held at Berlin-Wannsee on December 4. The Young Scientists and Synchrotron Day as well as the Science Day was held at Berlin-Adlershof on December 5 and 6.

Satellite Workshop
The Eleventh Joint BER II and BESSY II User Meeting was accompanied by the Foresight Workshop 'Materials metrology'. A lunch-to-lunch workshop organized in cooperation with the National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB) held in Berlin-Adlershof on December 3 to 4, 2019.

The Tenth Joint BER II and BESSY II User Meeting took place from December 5 to 7, 2018.

The Young Scientists and Synchrotron Day as well as the Science Day was held at Berlin-Adlershof on December 5 and 6. The Young Scientists and Neutron Day was held at Berlin-Wannsee on December 7.

The Tenth Joint BER II and BESSY II User Meeting was accompanied by the 'Celebration of 20 Years of Beam and Light at BESSY II' at Berlin-Adlershof on December 5.

The Eighth Joint BER II and BESSY II User Meeting took place December 7 to 9, 2016.
