Advanced Protein Purification Labs at the HZB-MX Biolab Facility

Our Protein Purification Labs, part of the HZB-MX Biolab Facility, offer a well-equipped space for purifying proteins from prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell cultures. These facilities are available to both internal and external users of the BESSY II synchrotron.

Available Equipment

The air-conditioned purification room is equipped with essential tools for reliable protein purification and analysis:

✔ Chromatography Systems – ÄKTA™ Pure & ÄKTA™ Purifier, supporting:
    ◾ Affinity purification
    ◾ Ion exchange chromatography
    ◾ Size-exclusion (gel filtration) chromatography
✔ Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers – Sanyo (301L) & Panasonic (84L) for sample storage.
✔ Tritec Climatic Cabinets – TC 603 & TC 604 for controlled conditions during purification.

Our facility supports researchers preparing samples for structural studies at BESSY II or conducting biochemical and biophysical analyses. After purification, protein samples can be analysed in-house in our Characterization Labs or prepared for X-Ray Crystallography analysis in the HZB-MX PrepLab.
