The PrepLab – Supporting Your Sample Preparation & Crystallization Workflow

The PrepLab is a dedicated sample preparation space available to both internal and external users of BESSY II. It provides the essential equipment and environment needed for setting up protein crystallization plates, soaking, and freezing protein crystals in preparation for diffraction experiments.

  • Essential Tools for Crystallization – An NT8 pipetting robot with humidity control for precise and reproducible plate setup.
  • Microscopy Support – Three Leica microscopes for inspecting and handling crystals with accuracy.
  • Temperature-Controlled Storage – A 4°C fridge, a -20°C freezer, and a temperature-controlled crystal plate storage unit to keep your samples in optimal conditions.
  • Convenient Access – Easy availability of liquid nitrogen and close proximity to the MX beamlines for seamless sample transfer.
