Diversity

Diversity HZB

Welcome at HZB: People of different nationalities discuss in the experimental hall of BESSY II at the Adlershof site.

Diversity moves us forward

We appreciate and promote the diversity of our employees. Bringing different people together is an important premise for creativity and innovation, and an inherent part of the working culture at HZB.

HZB is committed to an appreciative working environment and embraces its employees in all their facets, from ethnic origin and nationality, to generation, gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion, sexual orientation and professional backgrounds. When different people come together, this creates new opportunities for cooperation and creativity.

Shaping diversity – certified by the Stifterverband

Tapping into these potentials and turning them into permanent traits of the working culture is a conscious choice of HZB: In the scope of the Diversity Audit by the Stifterverband in 2020/2021 (press release), many employees from all departments worked together to develop suggestions and corresponding measures. The aim was not only to prevent discrimination and to support minorities, but also to live an open and respectful culture that gives all employees room to unfold their strengths.

We signed the German Diversity Charter

In 2022, HZB also signed the German Diversity Charter, becoming one of around 4,500 companies and institutions in Germany committed to promoting diversity in the working environment.

Our values – written down bindingly in the Code of Conduct

The values for which HZB stands, and the managers represent at all levels, are laid out in our Code of Conduct. We encourage a considerate and respectful manner and open communication with one another. Our recruiting processes are based on unbiased selection and procedures that guarantee equality in every respect. If there ever are conflicts or problems, we have a number of contact person who offer individual advice and, if necessary, a structured escalation process.

Diversity-sensitive Language

The HZB has had a guideline for diversity-sensitive language since August 2021. It is intended to encourage us to use our language more consciously so that people of all genders feel addressed. We are working on gradually revising our websites. We ask for your understanding that our website does not yet fully comply with the rules of diversity-sensitive language.
