2025 European Conference on Optics for Solar Energy

SolarCells

The 2025 European Conference on Optics for Solar Energy reviews current trends and recent developments in optics and photonics for solar energy conversion. It covers various aspects such as fundamental optical concepts, light management, quantum dots and other luminescent materials, spectral-conversion materials, modelling, device design, fabrication technologies, and characterization. The covered applications range from single-junction and multi-junction solar cells, the optics of photovoltaic modules, to aesthetic considerations for solar energy installations in both urban and rural environments. Furthermore, submissions on energy-yield calculations, potentially with complex illumination conditions, as well as thermal management aspects including radiative cooling are highly welcome. This conference builds on the success of the Berlin-based Workshops on Optics for Solar Energy, organized since 2015, and is part of the Photonics Days Berlin Brandenburg, hosted by OptecBB. Our goal is to bring to together a vibrant, international community to explore the latest advancements in the field of optics for solar energy.

Topics include, but are not limited to

  • Photovoltaic modules and new devices with improved performance due to optical concepts
  • Dielectric and metallic nanostructures for novel light trapping concepts, wavelength or angular selectivity and antireflective surfaces
  • Photon management with luminescent materials, such as in downconversion, upconversion and luminescent solar concentrators
  • Optical concepts for building integrated PV, e.g. coloured modules
  • Optics for perovskite and organic solar cells
  • Multi-junction solar cells, especially photon management aspects such as photon recycling, intermediate reflectors etc.
  • Radiation steering including concentration and spectral splitting
  • Modelling of solar energy conversion systems, ranging from the simulation of photonic elements to the energy yield analysis of systems.
  • Innovative transparent electrodes for flexible and rigid devices
  • Thermal management, e.g. with radiative cooling
