High spin polarization measured from a topological surface state

The sketch to the left shows the predicted spin-dependent band dispersion for Bi2Te3. The violet vertical line shows the finite k//-value where the measurement to the right was taken. The topological surface state (TSS) shows a high spin polarization but, in addition, bulk states are spin polarized as well. The samples have been grown by our colleagues from Moscow State University.
