Experiment 7: UV-RIP on thaumatin
Radiation damage induced phasing (RIP) is a fairly new method which is based on defined changes introduced into the structure by radiation damage. A small crystal of thaumatin was used for this experiment. First, a low redundancy data set (termed before) was collected, then the crystal was exposed for 10 minutes to a pulsed UV-laser and then a second data set (termed after) was collected. The structure can then be solved in an SIR-type approach.
