MENEZES Lab Summer Barbecue

Our annual MENEZES Lab summer barbecue brought the team together for an afternoon of good food, relaxed conversations, and plenty of laughter.

A special thank you to our Master’s student Erfan Moradi for organizing the event and bringing everyone together. Beyond research and experiments, these moments help strengthen our team spirit and make our group a great place to work.

Here’s to another successful year of research and many more memorable moments together!

Prof. Raju Kumar Gupta Visits Our Lab

We were pleased to host Prof. Raju Kumar Gupta from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur during his visit to the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for scientific discussions and the exchange of ideas on advanced energy materials and electrochemical energy conversion, while strengthening academic connections within the global research community.

Thank you, Prof. Gupta, for the insightful discussions!

MENEZES Lab at the Inauguration of Ucaneo’s DAC Facility

Members of the MENEZES Lab attended the inauguration of Ucaneo’s Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility in Berlin, marking an important milestone for electrochemical carbon capture and the city’s growing climate-tech ecosystem.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with the Ucaneo team and learn more about their innovative approach to carbon capture. Congratulations to the entire Ucaneo team on this important achievement!

Dr. Niklas Hausmann at the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings

Our group member Dr. Niklas Hausmann participated in the 75th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings 2026 at Lake Constance, joining around 600 outstanding young scientists from across the world.

Selected through a highly competitive international process, Niklas had the opportunity to engage with Nobel laureates and early-career researchers through lectures, discussions, and interdisciplinary scientific exchange.

Congratulations to Niklas on this outstanding achievement and for representing HZB and the MENEZES Lab at this prestigious international meeting!

Dr. Hongyuan Yang at the 2026 Green Development Conference

Our group member Hongyuan Yang was invited to the 2026 Green Development Conference in Shenzhen, China, as a representative young scientist and engineer.

He discussed about our recent research on alkaline and AEM electrolysis for sustainable fuel and chemical production, with a focus on advanced materials design. Hongyuan also participated in a panel discussion on international research experiences and career development, where he introduced Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and the interdisciplinary research environment of the MENEZES Lab.

Congratulations to Hongyuan on representing our group and HZB on this international platform!

Our group member Dr. Niklas Hausmann was invited to present a lecture titled “Reproducibility in Electrocatalysis” at the Center of High Entropy Alloy Catalysis (CHEAC), Department of Chemistry, University of Copenhagen.

The talk highlighted the importance of scientific rigor, transparency, and reproducibility in electrocatalysis—core principles that guide our research at MENEZES Lab.

We gratefully acknowledge CHEAC and the University of Copenhagen for the kind invitation and for providing an excellent platform for scientific exchange.

Our group member, Dr. Debabrata Bagchi, was invited to present his research at the MTET Sub-topic 3.2 Workshop 2026 – “Power-based Chemicals and Fuels” held at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP), Garching.

His presentation highlighted recent advances in the electrochemical upcycling of biomass- and plastic-derived molecules into value-added chemicals and fuels, contributing to discussions on sustainable carbon utilization and electrochemical conversion technologies.

We thank the organizers for the invitation and for providing an excellent platform for scientific exchange.

Visit of Dr. Jerry Lamola (Sasol South Africa Limited)

Dr. Jerry Lamola from Sasol South Africa Limited visited our lab in Berlin for fruitful scientific discussions and knowledge exchange. The interaction with Prof. Menezes and our research group provided valuable insights and opened up perspectives for future collaboration, further strengthening academia–industry engagement in energy and catalysis research.
