Soft and hard XAS combined with (HAX)PES in (ultra) high vacuum environment for all-solid-state batteries
Probing anode-free batteries by operando HAXPES
• To create anode-free setup, a 6nm thin film of a Ni current collector is deposited on top of the solid electrolyte that is pressed from the other side to the Li counter electrode using a specially-designed operando cell. An array of holes in the top plate allow for direct access of the beam to the electrode whilst providing a homogenous current distribution.
•The ultrathin current collector approach allows for probing electroreduction, electrooxidation and metal plating reaction on large variety of electrolytes and experiment conditions.
•Li6PS5Cl starts to decompose already at 1.75 V, with increasing of Li density and formation of mainly Li2S and Li2O. These side products decompose in the 2–4 V window, generating sulfur species, sulfites and sulfates.
