Helmholtz energy alliance

The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin and the Forschungszentrum Jülich are forming with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the Universität Potsdam, and the Freie Universität Berlin one of the three new energy alliances. The aim of this energy alliance named "Inorganic/organic hybrid-solarcells and -techniques for photovoltaics" is to cover the urging demand of research to change our energy sources more rapidly. The project is funded for three years by the Impuls- und Vernetzungsfonds der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft and by the connected universities. Further collaboration of all partners beyond the three years is planned.

The main scientific goals are:

• Providing a complete picture of the processes leading to exciton dissociation and charge separation at interfaces between inorganic (ZnO, CIGS, Si) and conjugated organic polymers as well as small organic molecules.
• Fabrication of highly efficient hybrid solar cells based on inroganic semiconductor nanocolumns and organic polymers/small organic molecules.
• Development of solar cells based on the combination of nanoparticles/ nanowires from inorganic elements and alloys and organic matrix materials absorbing light as well as charge conducting medium.
