PM2-VEKMAG

Vector Magnet

The beamline PM2, dedicated to host the Vector Superconducting Magnet station VEKMAG, is located at a bending magnet of BESSY II and offers an extremely stable beam. In order to be able to change the polarization of the x-rays very rapidly, a hexapod vacuum chamber with six moveable legs supporting a mirror was developed. Slight changes of the leg positions can change the orientation of the first mirror and thereby the polarization of the x-ray beam in just seconds. This prototype arrangement improves the signal-to-noise ratio by a factor of more than ten.
