Abstract:
The goal of the LUX project at Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich is to create 5 keV photons for protein crystallography. Simultaneously, it will be used to test the emerging technology of cryogenic permanent magnets for use in table top Free-Electron Lasers. The high flux and short wavelength requirements for crystallography translate into large magnetic fields created by very small magnets. We discuss some of the challenges encountered in designing such a lattice and propose solutions.
