Silicon-Perovskite Tandem Baseline
Silicon/perovskite tandem solar cells hold the key to next-generation photovoltaics, combining the proven efficiency and stability of silicon with the high bandgap tunability of perovskites. To accelerate industrial adoption, a highly stable and reproducible tandem process is essential. That’s why we have established a dedicated baseline group that develops and maintains a robust 4 cm² tandem baseline, ensuring long-term stability and enabling outdoor and reliability testing. For this, we leverage our complete in-house process chain, covering every step from wafer preparation to final device integration, allowing full control over quality and reproducibility.
The silicon bottom cell is the foundation of a high-performance tandem device. We continuously optimize our SHJ baseline, already achieving efficiencies above 24%. Our focus is on industrial-like cells, using:
- Thin Cz wafers for material efficiency
- Saw damage etched or different sized textured surfaces for enhanced light management
- Bottom cells from Industry
We explore multiple scalable deposition techniques to fabricate perovskite top cells, ensuring compatibility with industrial processes:
- Slot-die coating for high-throughput processing
- Evaporation in collaboration with our PVD group
- Inkjet printing for material-efficient patterning
By integrating these scalable approaches, we are paving the way for tandem solar cells that can be transferred to industrial production.
