School Lab

Solar Energy Research

maximum of 28 participants
grades 7 and 8:  9 am till 1 pm
grades 9 and 10: 9 am till 2 pm
grades 11-13: 9 am till 3 pm

The day starts with the building of solar cells out of simple materials like Hibiscus Tea. All of the needed materials are provided.

A presentation will explain the basics of solar energy technology and the structure of solar materials. To characterise the self-built solar cells parameters like current and voltage will be measured. A few of the self built solar cells connected can later power a small calculator. A puzzle will help understanding the exact functioning of these solar cells.

For 11th grade and above the visit of a laboratory will provide insight into the research done at the HZB. Here scientists will take the time to present their topics of research and answer questions.

At last a quiz will help to wrap up the day.

For 11th grade and above it is possible to have lunch at the cafeteria. Classes of 7th to 10th grade are asked to bring their own lunch.
