Digital Leaps STARS Workshop II
28 – 29 February 2024
A European Strategy on the Digital Transformation of Accelerator-based Photon Sources towards a resilient and sustainable European Research Area.
Scope of the STARS Workshop
STARS (Surveying Technology for Advancing Remote Access) is one of the pillars of DIGITAL LEAPS and focuses on the enhanced remote access for users of LEAPS facilities to preserve green deal goals of the DIGITAL LEAPS initiative. DIGITAL LEAPS, in particular, aims at the digital transformation of accelerator-based photon sources towards a resilient and sustainable European research area based on the overall LEAPS strategy.
LEAPS (League of European Accelerator-based Photon-Sources) is a strategic consortium initiated by the directors of the synchrotron and Free Electron Laser user facilities in Europe. Its primary goal is to promote and ensure the quality and impact of fundamental, applied and industry research carried out at each facility to the greater benefit of European science and society.
STARS covers several topics that create the foundation for remote access. These topics are organized across three work packages (WP):
- Mail-in sample handling (WP1.1)
- IT-tools for remote access (WP1.2)
- and Automated sample handling (WP1.3).
The STARS workshop II at HZB / BESSY will be a face-to-face meeting of the members of all three work packages to discuss final results of STARS phase 1+. Further activities and continuation of cooperations between the working groups in a possible STARS phase 2 will be discussed. The lunch-to-lunch meeting (February 28 – 29th) will be organized as a joint meeting of all three WPs as well as split parallel WP meetings. The core meeting times are 14h on day 1 (Februrary 28th) to 12h on Februrary 29th. Remote access for registered participants will be enabled.
We will do our best to organize an inspiring and lively atmosphere to foster the exchange of results, ideas and strategic plans for further activities in order to support the green deal goals of DIGITAL LEAPS.
