In recent years, we have witnessed rapidly growing global interest in sodium batteries, driven by their increasing adoption in electric vehicles, power tools, and stationary energy storage systems.

It is therefore our great pleasure to invite you to Berlin for the 7th International Sodium Battery Symposium (SBS-7). Alternating biennially with our colleagues from IKTS in Dresden, the Sodium Battery Symposium has become a key meeting point for researchers and industry leaders in this field.

Von makroskopischen Materialien bis hin zu einzelnen Makromolekülen deckt die moderne Infrarotspektroskopie (IR) mittlerweile enorme räumliche Skalen ab. Angesichts des immensen Anwendungsspektrums und der jüngsten Durchbrüche im Bereich der Nahfeld-Nano-IR freuen wir uns, einen Workshop anzukündigen, der sich ausschließlich mit den aktuellen Möglichkeiten der modernen IR-Spektroskopie befasst. Der in Zusammenarbeit mit der HU organisierte Workshop findet als „Satellitenveranstaltung“ der Jahrestagung „Make and Measure: Interfaces 2026“ statt, sodass es einfach ist, an beiden eng miteinander verbundenen Veranstaltungen innerhalb einer einzigen Woche teilzunehmen.

Durch die Zusammenführung von Experten aus verschiedenen Skalenbereichen wollen wir die Lücke zwischen makroskopischer Materialanalyse und Durchbrüchen im Nanobereich schließen und die Anwendung moderner IR-Techniken in der wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft fördern.

Wir leben in Zeiten gesellschaftlicher Polarisierung. Demokratiefeindliche Tendenzen, Ablehnung von wissenschaftlicher Expertise und Anfeindungen gegen Wissenschaftler*innen nehmen zu. Viele beschäftigen die Fragen: Was kann ich konkret tun? Und welche Verantwortung tragen die Wissenschaftseinrichtungen? Diese Fragen wollen wir gemeinsam mit Expert*innen aus Wissenschaft und Wissenschaftskommunikation sowie dem wissenschaftlichen Geschäftsführer des HZB diskutieren.

Internationale Konferenz, die sich der Erforschung dynamischer funktioneller Grenzflächen durch Operando- und In-situ-Charakterisierung widmet. Die ONI bringt führende Forscher zusammen, die die Grenzflächenwissenschaft durch Experimente, Theorie und Materialdesign vorantreiben, und bietet ein einzigartiges Forum, um das Verständnis dynamischer Grenzflächen auf atomarer und molekularer Ebene in den Bereichen Katalyse, Elektrochemie, Batterien und Energiematerialien zu vertiefen.

Das wissenschaftliche Programm umfasst Keynote-Vorträge, eingeladene und eingereichte Vorträge, Postersessions sowie eine von „Nature Catalysis“ moderierte Podiumsdiskussion, in der führende Forscher neue wissenschaftliche Herausforderungen und zukünftige Richtungen in der Operando-Nanoskala-Wissenschaft erörtern werden. Ergänzend zum wissenschaftlichen Programm werden bei einer zweiten hochrangigen Podiumsdiskussion Vertreter aus Wissenschaft, Industrie und Politik zusammenkommen, um zu erörtern, wie Wissenschaft und Innovation die globale Energiewende beschleunigen können. 

With the series of annual user meetings, we bring together our user community to intensify scientific exchange and stimulating new collaborations. The meetings will provide an overview of the many exciting and inspiring research results obtained at our facility in the past year and will emphasize on future developments in particular on BESSY III. Plenary talks, discussions, a public lecture, the market place of innovation and a poster session will provide vast possibilities of information and discussion. The bestowals of the 'Prizes for Young Scientists' donated by the Freundeskreis Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin e.V. (FHZB) are traditional highlights of the user meetings.
