Femtosecond X-ray pulses

It has been demonstrated that femtosecond light pulses in the X-ray spectral range are a proven tool to explore ultrafast dynamics in matter on a nanoscale, covering the topics of ultrafast magnetization dynamics on relevant length and timescales, phase transition dynamics in correlated materials as well as molecular dynamics. To address fundamental questions out of these fields we are using in a combined manner experimental capabilities at Free Electron lasers (FEL), table top VUV-sources based on High Harmonic Generation (HHG) as well as our FEMTOSPEX facility, a 24 h user facility for science with ~100 fs soft x-ray pulses of variable polarization.
