Optical layout of the new Russian-German undulator beam line

After 10 years of scientific success the Russian-German laboratory at BESSY II is undergoing a major upgrade of its scientific capabilities. Besides the existing bending magnet beam line a new undulator beam line for angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy with high energy resolution and spin detection will be installed. The funding of this project is the result of a joint proposal submitted by German and Russian researchers. The new Russian-German undulator beam line will replace the BUS beamline operated until 2010 by the Berlin Universities. The new beam line will cover the energy range from 15 eV to 250 eV with an energy resolution of sub-meV at 20 eV photon energy and 1.3 meV at 40 eV. A dedicated photoemission end station with flexible sample preparation capabilities is being set up by the group of Prof. Laubschat at TU Dresden. A second free branch is foreseen to be equipped with a MHz-Chopper for spin-resolved time-of-flight spectroscopy.
