New version of our user access tool GATE
We are currently working on a new version of our central web-based user tool GATE, the general access tool to the experimental infrastructure of HZB. The changes are very extensive and the workload is comparable to a brand new development.
The new GATE version is necessary because the requirements for user access have changed enormously with the formation of EMIL, our new multi-user platform CoreLabs, and new projects like HEMF (Helmholtz Energy Materials Foundry). Until now GATE was oriented towards our large scale facilities BESSY II, BER II and HFM/EXED and allowed only two submission deadlines and two proposal review processes per year.
Our newest innovation is the implementation of Facility Groups which allow us to define different attributes for each group. We can for example keep the two deadlines and the review process for BESSY II and BER II and establish continuous proposal submission and a rolling access review system for our new Facility Groups HEMF, CoreLabs, and EMIL.
The next call for the proposal round 2019/1 - with beamtime being allocated in the first semester of 2019 - will be with our new GATE version. However, you will barely notice the change because your GATE username and your GATE password will remain unchanged. You can login to GATE the same way as before.
One small change is that when choosing the Facility Group for which you want to apply you will notice that from now on experiment time at the X-ray CoreLab can also be applied for via GATE.
You will find more detailed information about our new GATE on our webpage and in our next call for proposal.
