Welcome at the Institute Silicon Photovoltaics

Currently the world market for solar cells is dominated by devices based on crystalline silicon wafers. Research institutions and industrial development laboratories have pushed the efficiency of such devices close to its theoretical maximum.

Our work is therefore focused on fundamental questions as well as silicon based technologies and device architectures, which can help to overcome the current limitations and further optimize the cost of solar energy conversion. Some of the key aspects are the development of silicon based crystalline thin film solar cells and the combination of silicon based devices with other material classes, e.g. perovskites. Further on we use technologies developed in our institute to access other fields of application, e.g. bio sensors.
